Netflix has clamped down on password sharing across households, with subscribers in the UK noticing changes rolled out this week. Account holders received emails from the streaming giant reminding them that their account is for use by 'you and the people you live with.'
Some have even been faced with a message when logging on to Netflix, which forces them to identify their main household before they can continue browsing. Subscribers must confirm that the internet connection they're using belongs to that main household.
If that's not the case, unless an extra household is included in their plan, they are then asked to pay an extra £4.99 to access it. Those refusing to pay the fee will be booted off - ending password sharing across different homes.

Here is a breakdown the subscription plans Netflix offers in the UK, what they include and their cost. Only two of the four options offer outside-household sharing.
The cheapest of the lot is the streaming service's Standard with adverts plan. For £4.99 a month, it includes advert-supported TV and film shows - but not all on the platform are accessible to these subscribers. It also offers unlimited mobile games, the ability to watch shows on two supported devices at a time and in full HD.
Next is the Basic plan, which comes with unlimited advert-free movies, TV shows, and mobile games in HD. You can watch and download content on one supported device at a time. It costs £6.99.
The Standard package offers the same as the Basic plan, however content is available to be watched and downloaded on two supported devices. The option to share your account with one extra person outside your household is also included, all for £10.99 a month.
Finally, the Premium plan will set you back by £15.99 a month. It comes with unlimited advert-free movies, TV shows, and mobile games which can be viewed in ultra HD. You can watch shows on four supported devices at any one time and download content to six.
You can also add up to two extra members on the account. Netflix spatial audio - which the platform says 'enhances sound without the need for surround sound speakers or home theatre equipment' is also included.
More non-household members can be added to Standard and Premium plans for an extra £4.99 a month each.
Netflix clarifies: "Extra members have their own account and password, but their membership is paid for by the person who invited them to share their Netflix account. Your plan determines how many extra member slots you can add."
