THE National is publishing a 16-page special picture supplement of the life of Alex Salmond this Saturday in the week that Scotland said goodbye to the former first minister.
The National has collated pictures from the archive to remember Salmond, his life, and impact on the nation.
Readers will see pictures from his childhood until his death, as well as hear the stories behind the pictures from those who knew him across the decades.
As Salmond was potentially the most photographed man in Scotland for a considerable part of his life, there is no shortage of images – but we’ve sought out the rarest of them to give a glimpse of the late leader as never seen before.
The National's managing editor Stewart Ward said: "We've printed many words about the legacy of Alex Salmond in the time since his death – but pictures tell a story, too.
"We've dug deep into the archives to travel through the decades, trying to capture just some of the enormous mark that he has left on Scotland.
"The picture supplement goes from his earliest days as an MP through to his time as SNP leader, first minister of Scotland, and Alba Party leader.
"We hope this sparks some memories and reflections from our readers – as we look to the past to shape our journey in the future."
The supplement will be available in the Saturday, November 2 edition of the paper.
