The Nasty Hamstring Cramp of Noah Lyles Exemplifies Why Elite Sprinters Can't Ignore Muscle Warning Signs

American sprint star Noah Lyles saw his bid for another U.S. men's 200-meter title come to an unexpected end after pulling up during the final at the 2026 USA Track & Field Championships with what he later described as a hamstring cramp. Lyles slowed dramatically before stopping on the track, allowing Garrett Kaalund to claim the national title.

Despite the alarming sight, Lyles downplayed the incident afterward, saying he was not concerned and expressing confidence that the issue was a cramp rather than a significant muscle injury. The race immediately sparked questions about his health as he prepares for the remainder of the season and upcoming international competition.
