The most romantic restaurants to book in Northumberland this Valentine's Day

Still not made your mind up on how you're going to celebrate Valentine's Day?

It's definitely not original, but you can't go wrong with a nice meal out at a romantic restaurant. And restaurants around Northumberland are still taking bookings for the big day on February 14, though some couples will be choosing to celebrate over the weekend.

Here are some of the most romantic restaurants in Northumberland you can head with your other half this February 14.

The Jolly Fisherman

Embleton Bay in Northumberland has been included in a list of seven wonderful Valentine's walks in the UK, and while the area between Low Newton-by-the-Sea and Craster is remote, there's a handful of places to eat. In Low-Newton-by-the-Sea, there's the Ship Inn, and in High Newton-by-the-Sea the Joiners' Arms.

But gastropub The Jolly Fisherman in Craster has just edged it, with one of the most stunning terraces and beer gardens in the North East, and cosy log-burning fires inside. The gastropub has a range of seafood specials including Craster kippers and crab and lobster landed in the village - while its pies have won national awards.

Northumberland Arms

The Northumberland Arms is a former coaching inn in Felton, near Alnwick, which is another of the county's award-winning pubs. It picked up a TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice award for the second time last year, and its sister pub The Blackbird in Ponteland was named pub of the year at the North East Tourism Awards in March 2022.

One punter had an unusual romantic experience there during a visit with his girlfriend in November 2021, when Storm Arwen swept across the North East. In a post on Twitter, he said: "We were there the weekend in November 2021 with the bad storms. The power kept going off in the pub - you can't get much more romantic than candle lit pints!"

The Northumberland Arms underwent an extensive refurbishment during the Covid-19 pandemic and recently launched a menu for dogs - so couple's with furry friends should put this on their list.

Feathers Inn

You'll find the Feathers Inn in both the Michelin Guide and Good Food Guide. The country pub in Hedley-on-the-Hill in south west Northumberland is occasionally present at Armstrong Bridge Food Market in Jesmond too.

This year, chefs have gone all out to create a Valentine menu that's the "perfect accompaniment to love," with a dessert sharing plate for two on the cards. You'll have to be quick to book though - as it's only available from 6pm - 8:30pm on Tuesday February 14.

Adam and Eve

Named after the original couple, Adam and Eve aims to bring farm-to-table dining to Alnwick. Its Valentine's Day menu includes ricotta stuffed figs, truffle risotto and sirloin steak.

It's one of several romantic options in the market town, with the Alnwick Garden Treehouse a spectacular yet quirky option, and the Dirty Bottles providing cracking cocktails with a spooky mystery on the side.

Bouchon Bistrot

Nothing says romance quite like French food (except Maybe Italian food), and Hexham's Bouchon Bistrot serves up "straightforward country style French cuisine." Bouchon's owner comes from the Loire Valley and has worked in several Michelin Star restaurants.

The restaurant even added a roof terrace in July 2021, though it may be a bit chilly out there on Valentine's Day. Other options in Hexham's town centre include Coriander, Zyka, Vercelli and Danielle's Bistro.

Niko's Greek Taberna

A small and cosy attempt at recreating the Aegean in Northumberland's county town, Niko's Greek Taberna is a relatively cheap and cheerful option which will have you dreaming of summer holidays. As well as classic main courses such as moussaka and stifado, a selection of smaller starters can be shared tapas style with your date if you wish.

Other romantic restaurants in Morpeth include Italian eateries Lollo Rosso Italia and Primo Piano, and Ephesus Turkish restaurant.

Fish and chips at Seahouses

It might not pass as a romantic restaurant, but according to many up in Northumberland, fish and chips at Seahouses is a romantic date. There are several options for the British seaside staple in town - Lewis's Fish Restaurant was voted one of the best in the country last year, with Neptune Fish Restaurant and Hook Fish and Chips all within view of each other.

You could eat in Lewis's or Neptune, both of which have sit in restaurants, or head down to the Harbour and enjoy them with a view out over the Farne Islands. Alternatively, take the short drive up to Bamburgh Castle and eat overlooking one of the UK's most spectacular beaches.
