The basketball world will never forget Kobe Bryant.
Each year on Aug. 24, the Los Angeles area and the rest of the globe comes together to celebrate the career and life of Bryant, who tragically died in a helicopter crash along with his daughter Gianna and seven other passengers on Jan. 26, 2020. Kobe Bryant Day was established by the city of Los Angeles in 2016 following his retirement from basketball, and it’s only become a bigger holiday nationally since his passing. The date (8/24) was chosen in honor of the two jersey numbers he wore with the Lakers—No. 8 (1997 to 2006) and No. 24 (2007 to 2016).
