With the energy price cap lifting in April, many households are looking out for ways to save on their energy bills as the cost of living crisis continues to leave millions out of pocket.
A new survey has analysed which appliances in our home use up the most electricity every month - and while some are a must-have, others may make you think twice about how often you use them.
According to the study by electronics provider Freemans, the kitchen is the most expensive room in the house to run at an average of £73.91 a month.
This is largely due to the necessary cost of keeping your fridge -freezer going, which sets the average household back £43.68 every month, BristolLive reports.
Dishwashers come in second place, costing around £10.30, with a single oven in third at £9.36 followed by an electric stove at £5.20.
Coffee drinkers may be pleasantly surprised to learn that these appliances come in at a relatively low cost, with the average coffee machine costing 73p per month and an Espresso machine coming in at 19p.
A blender is the cheapest common kitchen appliance at just 5p a month.
Other white goods alongside the fridge-freezer take up a considerable chunk of electricity usage - a washing machine contributes an average of £6.86 to our monthly bill, while a dryer adds £3.47 a month. This adds up to an average £123.97 a year on laundry.
The biggest cost outside of the kitchen is a desktop computer, which sets the average household back £11.70 every month.
The television is the most expensive appliance in the living room at £3.49 a month - but this is still considerably cheaper than the average Netflix subscription, as Freemans points out.
Hairdryers earn a place in the top 10 of most costly electric appliances, coming in at 10th place with a monthly cost of £4.
Some of us may also be using additional heating devices to keep our houses toasty, which will be adding to our monthly bills. According to Freemans an electric blanket costs around £4.87 a month to use, while a space heater costs a similar £4.68.
Meanwhile, a heated towel rail to enjoy warm towels after a bath or shower costs £8.74 a month on average, making it the 5th most expensive appliance in the home.
Keeping cool is much cheaper by comparison, with a table fan contributing just 4p to our electricity bill each month.
British Gas recently advised households to switch off so-called ‘vampire devices’ for an easy way to save money on their household bills.
These electronic devices are so called because they continue to drain power when left on standby. The energy provider recommends switching off devices at the mains, including TVs, computers and gaming consoles.
They also suggest avoiding leaving the likes of laptops and mobile phones to charge overnight, and instead unplugging them as soon as they are charged.
