The moment dealer is caught with bag full of drugs after police chase down Cardiff street

A dealer carrying a bag full of drugs was arrested after being chased down a Cardiff street by police. Mustafa Mohamed from Cardiff was arrested in Roath on suspicion of drug dealing and was found to be carrying multiple wraps of cocaine and heroin.

On a previous occasion, the 22-year-old had tried to evade arrest by throwing his mobile phone into the River Taff. However, divers from South Wales Police searched the river and were able to recover the discarded phone, which officers later discovered was being used as a drugs line.

After being arrested following the discovery of his phone, Mohamed claimed in a police interview that he was only a drug user, not a dealer, but he was then forensically linked to drugs found in a house in Grangetown. Weighing scales were also found in the property.

On November 14, two weeks before he was due to appear in court, he was seen by officers acting suspiciously in Roath. Police chased him on foot and detained him using a taser. He was searched and found to be in possession of 29 wraps of crack cocaine, 25 wraps of heroin and an ounce of cocaine.

An investigation by South Wales Police's Organised Crime Unit led to Mohamed's arrest, with the 22-year-old being sentenced to four years in prison at Cardiff Crown Court on December 23, having pleaded guilty to charges of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

Publishing footage of the moment Mohamed was arrested, as well as the recovery of his phone from the River Taff, South Wales Police said that its officers "work tirelessly" to combat drug dealing in local communities.

"Throw your drugs line mobile phone into the river - we’ll find it; run away from our officers – we’ll catch up with you," the force said. "Our officers work tirelessly to keen the area safe for residents, and this case is just one example of how we are tackling drug dealing in the community.

"We can, and regularly do, act upon the information provided to us by the public, so please keep it coming. Anyone with suspicions or information about illegal drug supply is urged to contact us."
