The 2023 NBA All-Star Celebrity Game ended in dramatic fashion Friday night after WWE star The Miz nearly spoiled Team Wade and coach Dwayne Wade’s night with an unbelievable shot in the closing seconds.
Representing Team Ryan—named after Jazz owner Ryan Smith—The Miz corralled the inbounds pass at half court with 0.7 seconds on the clock and his squad down, 81–78. The multi-time WWE champion then took one step and heaved a left-handed prayer that shockingly sailed through the net, sending the crowd into a frenzy.
The Miz’s unlikely shot brought a stunned reaction on many of the celebrities’ faces, including eventual game MVP, Seahawks receiver D.K. Metcalf, who stood with his mouth open in amazement. However, unfortunately for The Miz and Team Ryan, the potential game-winner, which would’ve counted as four points, was quickly waved off after it was determined the shot left his hand after the buzzer.
Needless to say, the wild moment certainly made for great television, even if the shot ultimately didn’t count. And considering that he’s a wrestler who’s known for being braggadocious, The Miz could soon be a part of some more great TV given the possibility that he’ll hear a few jokes about his short-lived moment of glory (or his foolproof “strategy”) on the next episode of Monday Night Raw.
