Darryl Strawberry hit 252 home runs as a member of the New York Mets from 1983-1990 and each one felt like an event.
With a swing that looked almost too easy, Strawberry was named an eight-time All-Star, 1983 Rookie of the Year, two-time Silver Slugger and a key member of the 1986 World Series champion Mets (among the three titles he won).
Not to mention, he also won the Home Run Derby in 1986.
So as the Mets prepared to retire his No. 18 on Saturday, it felt only right to honor the day — and his legendary dingers — in the most New York Mets way possible.
Ok, scratch that. The second-most New York Mets way possible.
Citi Field turned their Home Run Apple in centerfield into a Strawberry.

That is just absolutely perfect. Here’s hoping the Mets can keep it together long enough to knock one out of the park on Saturday against the Diamondbacks.
