The Met Office weather forecast in Wales for the bank holiday weekend as rain may wreck Jubilee street party plans

Heavy rain and thunder is expected to hit parts of the UK on Saturday, putting a damper on Platinum Jubilee celebrations. A yellow weather warning has been issued for parts of the south and west of England threatening to turn picnics into soggy sandwiches, with the worst-hit areas facing frequent lightning and downpours.

Wales misses the warning, but the forecast has changed quite dramatically since the start of the week when it was predicted to be dry. The Met Office forecast for Wales now says: "Saturday morning will be mostly dry in the north with bright spells, whilst showery rain is likely in the south, perhaps heavy and thundery. Skies may brighten more widely later. Maximum temperature will be around 19°C." You can see a list of street parties in your area here.

The outlook for Sunday says: " Cooler and mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain or showers." Not good news for the many Jubilee parties that are due to be held over the weekend in Wales, and for football fans heading to the Cardiff City stadium on Sunday night for Wales' crunch game against Ukraine. There are also concerts being held in Cardiff Castle on Saturday and Sunday. Live under the Stars has announced the Cardiff Castle Jubilee Celebration Concert on Saturday, June 4, which will feature the likes of Aled Jones, Mike Peters, Bonnie Tyler and John Owen-Jones. The event, which will kick off at 3pm, will also see drumming weatherman Owain Wyn Evans take to the stage alongside funnyman Mike Doyle, the Pendyrus Male Voice Choir and the Welsh Pops Orchestra. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expected to be involved. Find out everything you need to know about the concerts here.

On Sunday, the low pressure across northern France looks set to bring more showery rain to England and Wales. The BBC forecast says: "Temperatures across the weekend are forecast to be near average for early summer but Sunday may feel on the cool side in any rain." Forecaster Matt Taylor says that it is difficult to pinpoint exactly where the rain is going to hit on Sunday, but that southern and western areas are likely to be worst affected.

He says: "We're going to see batches of heavy and thundery showers work the way northwards. Pinpointing the exact timing is very difficult at this stage, but there will be some wet weather punctured by some drier and brighter moments."
