The meaning behind the summer solstice 2023 is refreshing and encouraging

It's hard to believe, but summer solstice 2023 is upon us, and half of the year is already in the rearview.

When it comes to astrology, we always keep an eye out for the next full moon, what planet is in retrograde, and so forth, but there's something about this seasonal happening that gives us a little pep in our step. We can't help but appreciate the longest day of the year.

"The summer solstice represents new beginnings," says evolutionary astrologer Dalila Salgueiro. "Occurring at the beginning of Cancer Season, it reminds us to turn inwards and find the nourishment needed to grow and evolve. Just as we align with the Moon’s journey every month, we can align with the Sun’s journey throughout the year."

Here's what to expect this year's summer solstice.

Summer Solstice 2023: everything you need to know

When is the summer solstice?

The summer solstice is Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at 10:57am ET. This marks the time when the sun reaches its highest and northernmost point in the sky. The summer solstice is considered the longest day of the year, as it has the most daylight.

What is the meaning behind the summer solstice?

Despite any challenges we may experience, the summer solstice is a reminder of the light in the world and to keep going, even when it feels impossible. Now is a good time for a refresh and to make sure that all of your goals are aligned for the remainder of the year.

"Summer becomes a time to work on ourselves and our ability to be the light and find meaning in our journey, even when it seems uncertain and trust that just like the Sun, we will rise each day no matter what life brings us," Salgueiro adds.

How do we prepare for the summer solstice?

According to Salgueiro, it all comes down to two things: setting intentions and expressing gratitude. (Now might be the time to start a gratitude journal or serendipity journal or perhaps explore manifesting with crystals.)

When it comes time to set intentions, Salgueiro says: "Direct your intentions on the themes of this phase, which are patience, nourishment and trust. Write down positive affirmations to show you are open to receiving the energies available on this day. Be open to nourishment and growth."

But that's just half the battle. Don't forget to show your appreciation for all that you've received, and be open to what the universe has in store for you next.

"Write a gratitude list for everything that you already possess and everything that you want to come your way," Salgueiro adds. "Part of the manifestation process is to actually feel gratitude for what we want before we even have it. Through this act, we are telling the universe we trust that our wishes will be fulfilled and the very act will call in the energy we desire."
