Kieran Trippier continued to boost his fitness with another 90 minutes game-time in Wolverhampton and helped England earn the type of clean sheet Italy are famous for. Only Harry Maguire (94) had more touches than Trippier's 88 while he made two interceptions and made four clearances.
The Newcastle United star was fielded at left-back again in the 0-0 stalemate at Molineux and barely put a foot wrong as he kept Atalanta star Matteo Pessina quiet.
Trippier put in a no nonsense challenge on Pessina on 15 minutes and rather than push forward the way he likes to for Newcastle on the right, he preferred to urge Jack Grealish to push into the space ahead of him. On the night he managed just one cross but it was never going to be easy against the European champions.
And that is now two back to back 90 minutes for his country in the space of a week. On 20 minutes he fended off Pessina again but ended up in the book four minutes later after trying to stop him near the halfway line.
After the break, he tried to set up Grealish on the flank which led to Tammy Abraham having an attempt at goal. A raft of subs including Harry Kane failed to inspire England but he kept trying to gee the Three Lions up in the final stages.
His frustration was evident on 76 minutes when he tried to pick out Raheem Sterling but the Man City star overran the ball, resulting in Trippier sinking to his knees. But this was another useful night for Trippier and even if he doesn't play against Hungary on Tuesday, he should return to pre-season training in good shape.
Remember he spent three months on the sidelines with a broken foot and many wondered if we play again last season. But he now has game-time under his belt for club and country.
