The major Leeds road named worst for delays in the whole of Yorkshire

Major roads have been revealed the worst for delays in Yorkshire, according to a new study. Research from car insurance comparison website Quotezone found Hull’s A1165 saw the third-highest delays in Yorkshire up to Wednesday, June 29.

The worst road for delays in Yorkshire was Leeds’ A6029, with delays of 129.1 seconds per mile, followed by Bradford’s A6181, 124.1. The M62 eastbound within Junction 36, in the East Riding, had the fifth-worst delays with 68.5 seconds per vehicle per mile.

The survey showed drivers on the road, which runs from Holderness Road to the roundabout with Ferry Lane, faced delays of 108.8 seconds per mile on average. Quotezone founder Greg Wilson said it came ahead of a surge in traffic over the summer as schools break up for their holidays and families set off for trips away.

It comes as the company’s survey also showed Hull’s A165 had the fifth-longest delays of an average of 93.7 seconds per vehicle per mile. The A road runs from the Spring Bank and Beverley Road junction east via Freetown Way and Holderness Road, then north out of the city to the A1035.

The A1079, better known as Beverley Road, had the tenth-worst delays with 82.4 seconds per vehicle per mile. Beverley Road remains cut to one lane between Strand Close and Trafalgar Street due to ongoing works to shore up the structurally unsound Brunswick Arcade building.

Wakefield’s A1(M) northbound within Junction 41 had the worst with 69.9 seconds, with second, third and fourth place also on that highway in North Yorkshire junctions. The survey also showed the East Riding stretch of the A1079 had the third lowest delays on average with 10.5 seconds per vehicle per mile.

The road runs from the Beverley Road and Raich Carter Way roundabout at the Hull border west to the Hull Road and Stamford Bridge Road roundabout east of York. The A1034, which runs from South Cave north to Market Weighton, had the fifth-lowest delays with 11 seconds.

It was followed by the A1035, from east of Bishop Burton, north around Beverley to Hornsea and the A63 East Riding stretch, both with 11.2 seconds. Sheffield’s A630 had the lowest delays on average of Yorkshire A roads with 9.6 seconds per vehicle per mile.

Stretches of the A63 in Hull took places five through 10 for the lowest delays on strategic highways. Three eastbound within the A1079 junction had delays of 20.2, 21.7 and 21.8 seconds.

The eastbound stretch of the A63 between the A1166 and the A1079 had 22.6 second delays per vehicle per mile while two westbound stretches both had ones of 24.6. The survey is based on Department for Transport figures for 219 A roads and 605 on the strategic highway network.
