Yet it is Newcastle's ability to boost Tonali's wages from £75,000 per week to potentially a six-figure weekly package would could amount to around £7million a season. For all Tonali's loyalty to AC Milan it would be a tempting offer for the defensive midfielder who is regarded one of the best around.
On the pages of La Gazetta dello Sport it reads: "Tonali's will at this point becomes fundamental. "Newcastle's offer is strong, Sandro would earn at least £7.5million a season in the Premier League, a much higher figure than his current contract with Milan.
"He'd lose his connection to the club of his life. "He would stop being a symbol of the team he's rooting for. "He would move to a very rich team that still has to prove that they can win the Premier League."
As talk also grows of Tonali's representatives heading for London, the La Gazetta also reminded readers of Chelsea's interest in the Italy Under-21 midfielder. Newcastle are at the next level now in Europe, and they are never going to be alone when jostling for the Continent's prize players.
