One of Edinburgh's most infamous housing estates, built in the early 1970's, was meant to regenerate the area. Instead, it became a mini war zone and was branded 'hell' by locals who lived there.
The estate, in West Granton, was viewed as the perfect place to grow up for some, with a very tight-knit sense of community. For others, it was an eyesore and an incredibly dangerous place to live at times.
Old photos of the estate show the prison-like resemblance it had, with hundreds of flats in close contact with each other in big blocks and a concrete courtyard in the centre.
