Fans will get to see more of the Detroit Lions training camp than ever before this year when the team appears on HBO’s “Hard Knocks”. And it seems the Lions themselves wanted it that way.
In an interview with the Detroit Free Press, Hard Knocks director Shannon Furman indicated the Lions volunteered to be the subject of the documentary series in 2022.
“There was some interest from both the Lions and the Jets, I think, which were the two teams that were on the list this year,” Furman told Dave Birkett of the Free Press. “But there was a mutual agreement, the Lions kind of reached out, we were on board. Whenever anyone seems like they’re on board and wants to do it, we want to do it.”
Interestingly, the Lions and Jets were the two teams who coached draft prospects at the Senior Bowl in January and both volunteered for that privilege as well.
The quote from Furman reinforces the comments from both Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell from earlier in the offseason about appearing on the behind-the-scenes show.
