The New York Liberty are headed back to the WNBA Finals, and en route, they left a little gift for the Las Vegas Aces to remember them by — a pair of butter Timberland boots.
New York and their fans haven’t forgotten about Vegas celebrating a championship on their home floor at Barclays last season. The Liberty returned this year with a more connected starting lineup, a re-tooled bench and — though they won’t say it out loud — a mission to beat the team that kept them from winning a championship.
After convincingly rolling past the Aces on Sunday and punching their ticket to the 2024 WNBA Finals, New York left a parting gift at Michelob ULTRA Arena on the Aces logo. It was the most New York thing ever, and the petty levels were practically oozing. (By the way, if you’re unfamiliar with Timberlands, they’re practically the unofficial shoe of New York and “yerr” is a way of announcing yourself and making your presence known.)
