The LG G5 OLED TV is the reference model I use to test 4K Blu-rays, and the best time to buy it is right now

LG G5 OLED TV with Elemental on screen .

As TechRadar's resident 4K Blu-ray tester, I need one of the best OLED TVs to really let these new 4K discs shine. That's why my go-to model is the LG G5.

Delivering superb picture quality with Dolby Vision HDR support, the G5 is the perfect TV for testing the latest 4K discs for our Blu-ray Bounty feature. If you're looking for an elite TV to up your home viewing, there's no better time to pick up this fantastic TV.

The 55-inch LG G5 has returned to a record-low price of $1,496.99 at B&H Photo, one of today's best offers in the President's Day sales. While that is still a premium, it's an excellent price for a TV of this standard

A quick note: the listing has $2,096.99 as the price, but a $600 coupon is automatically applied when you add the G5 to your cart!

The ideal match for 4K Blu-ray

The LG G5 has been a reliable companion as I test 4K Blu-rays. Since the middle of 2025, it's done justice to all the different types of discs I've thrown at it: from colorful, beaming movies such as The Mask and Wicked, to dark, high contrast flicks like Dark City, and even Hollywood, black and white classics like Double Indemnity and Sunset Boulevard.

What I'm most impressed with is the G5's picture quality. Not only can it deliver deep, rich blacks that you want from an OLED, but also incredibly punchy colors with plenty of pop, and it can do both at the same time with ease.

It also delivered new levels of brightness unseen on OLED, hitting 2,268 nits peak HDR. This gives highlights real impact and creates a powerful perceived contrast when balanced with those stunning blacks.

But it's not just a hit for 4K discs: it's also one of the best gaming TVs. Four HDMI 2.1 ports support 4K 165Hz, AMD FreeSync and Nvidia G-Sync, HGiG, Dolby Vision gaming, and ALLM: the full suite of gaming features. Throw in a measured 9.2ms input lag time, and it easily handles fast-paced games, as I found playing Battlefield V. Even the most chaotic battles were expertly handled.

We awarded it five stars in our LG G5 review, and I couldn't agree more. It really is a superb TV, and it'll continue to serve as the reference screen for my never-ending supply of 4K Blu-rays.
