The Leeds United stars returning to training as pre-season gets under way

Leeds United have returned to Thorp Arch this morning for their first day of pre-season training under Jesse Marsch. The Whites only secured Premier League survival five weeks ago, but they’re back in action this morning as they begin their preparations for the new season.

Marsch will be keen to make swift progress over the coming weeks as he aims to make his mark on the side and hammer home his philosophy without the pressure of a relegation battle to contend with. His players are expected to have returned to work in relatively good shape after their summer breaks, but he’ll see them put through their paces on the field over the coming days.

The squad will also undergo testing at Leeds Beckett University and in the coming weeks they'll head off to Australia to continue their preparations down under with three friendlies in eight days against Brisbane Roar, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace. This morning will be the first time new signing Marc Roca will meet his teammates after completing his switch from Bayern Munich earlier this month.

However, the Whites will have to wait a while longer to welcome both Brenden Aaronson and Rasmus Kristensen into camp following their respective involvements with USA and Denmark.

Illan Meslier, Liam Cooper, Raphinha, Kristoffer Klaesson, Diego Llorente, Daniel James, Leo Hjelde, Charlie Cresswell and Mateusz Klich will also be given a little longer to rest up after representing their countries either at senior or under-21 level. As such, Marsch will be working with a depleted squad for the first week or so, but he’ll hope to make progress with the first-team names who are due to report for duty today.

Of course, both Luke Ayling and Stuart Dallas are still recovering from their injuries and they won’t be training, but here’s who should be returning to Thorp Arch today.
