The Leeds United fringe players who could play against Barnsley in the Carabao Cup

With the World Cup taking place during November and December this season, it's a hectic first few months of the campaign for Leeds United.

The Carabao Cup tie against Barnsley on August 24 seems an ideal opportunity for Jesse Marsch to rotate his squad, and he is sure to ring the changes when the League One outfit visit Elland Road.

Marsch could give minutes to experienced players who haven't received much game time in the Whites' opening three Premier League fixtures, and to youngsters who have impressed in the under-21s.

Leeds operated with a small squad under Marcelo Bielsa, but they now have bigger numbers under Marsch, which should allow for rotation in cup games.

Cody Drameh

Rasmus Kristensen is likely to get a rest against Barnsley, allowing 20-year-old Drameh the opportunity to impress. Drameh is set to stay at Leeds this season to fight for a place in the first-team.

After impressing on loan at Cardiff City last season, Swansea City were one of the clubs interested in the full-back this transfer window. With Luke Ayling still on the road to recovery following his injury, Drameh should get a chance against Michael Duff's side. He impressed in the Whites 2-2 draw with Norwich City in the Premier League 2 on Monday.

Leo Hjelde

18-year-old Hjelde is another young defender who could feature against Barnsley. He featured in last season's FA Cup, but not in the Carabao Cup.

If Pascal Struijk receives a rest, then Hjelde could play at left-back - particularly as Leeds have a lack of options in that position - or he could feature as the left-sided centre-back.

Archie Gray

After impressing during the Whites' pre-season tour of Australia, Gray could make his competitive first-team debut for Leeds. Gray caught the eye in the tour Down Under before picking up an injury after being on the receiving end of a heavy John McGinn tackle against Aston Villa.

The 16-year-old midfielder may not start against Barnsley, although he could feature from the bench.

Mateusz Klich

Klich has featured in both of the Whites' opening Premier League fixtures - coming on as a substitute against both Wolves and Southampton. The Carabao Cup second round tie could see Klich start his first game of the season.

There has been speculation this summer that the Poland international may depart Elland Road, but he did have a game changing impact in the win over Wolves.

Adam Forshaw

Another experienced head, Forshaw could get his first start of the season after coming off the bench at Southampton. The 30-year-old is in need of minutes having just returned from injury.

Darko Gyabi

Gyabi is another central midfield option who could get a chance against Barnsley. Signed from Manchester City this summer, Gyabi has been featuring in the Premier League 2.

Sonny Perkins

Perkins joined Leeds in July after turning down a new deal at West Ham United. The highly-rated 18-year-old scored in the draw against Norwich, and could be rewarded with a first-team opportunity.

Crysencio Summerville

Summerville made a cameo appearance on the opening day against Wolves, and was an unused substitute against Southampton. The forward was one of the star performers in the clash against Norwich at Thorp Arch.

Mateo Joseph

Given the injuries to Patrick Bamford and Joe Gelhardt (although both are believed to be minor), forward Joseph could feature against Barnsley after impressing for the under-21s.

Joseph scored four goals in the recent victory over Derby County under-21s, before adding to his account by netting in the draw against Norwich.
