The Leeds pub at the heart of Netflix's 'Bank of Dave' - and the real life Yorkshire filming locations

One of the stars of new Netflix film 'Bank of Dave' is Yorkshire, which provides much of the backdrop for the story.

The 2023 film is about Dave Fishwick, who set up a community bank for local businesses, battling London finance institutions. Despite Dave, played in the film by Rory Kinnear, having his idea in Burnley, much of the filming took place around Leeds, Bradford and Wakefield.

The film features Bradford City Hall, Production Park, Kendell's Bistro and more. Dave first came up with the idea for his bank in a pub in Burnley - in the film, Leeds' own Duck & Drake on Kirkgate stands in for that pub.

Duck & Drake landlord Rob Wilson told LeedsLive: "They contacted the owners and I was asked what I thought of being shut for a few days for filming. It seemed cool and interesting so I said yes and they came down to us for five days to shoot.

"I was having a good nosy. The art department came in first and dressed the pub - they did things like get rid of references of Leeds and put up Burnley things instead.

"Then after that the full crew came down and it was crazy. There were like 50-60 extras. The production still had some Covid rules in place I think so the actors would come down in a car and do their bits and then leave. It took two hours or so to set up each shot."

Screen Yorkshire was part of the production organisation across Yorkshire. Prime Studios in Leeds served as a base.

"It was really cool to see the reaction to it when it came out," Rob said. "The regulars were really excited and that's been really nice. It was really interesting seeing the technicalities of it all. It was absolute chaos when they were here though so I stayed out of the way.

"I have watched the film and the it's great and the pub looks great in it! It was cool that they decided to shoot in the oldest street in Leeds, and it's always good to get more people down here.

"We've had lots of new people in since the movie and everyone loves the film. A lot of people might think we've they used a pub in Leeds but there aren't many pubs around like this anymore.

"In the film they show that lovely sense of community and I love seeing the pub presented like that. It's always nice to see a pub being used properly!"
