The capital’s bracing itself for the arrival of extreme winds on Friday morning.
The Met Office has issued a rare Amber alert for severe weather hitting London and say the wind blasting in from the west is forecast to be so powerful that it poses a “danger to life” from flying debris and could down trees and power lines, and damage property.
The government’s called an emergency Cobra meeting and rail passengers in the capital are being urged not to travel.

As winds in London were feared to hit 90mph on Friday, the Met Office also took the unusual step of issuing a red weather warning for south-west England.
It comes after a lorry driver was killed on Wednesday night after he was blown off an HGV while unloading goods in Marston Green, Solihull, during Storm Dudley.
