The Leader podcast: London’s mental health crisis

London’s mental health crisis

(Picture: PA Wire)

A survey carried out by crisis charity Hestia has found 68% of people in London who took part have struggled with their mental health this year.

The research also found 85 percent of respondents aged between 18-24 admitted they are struggling.

CEO of Hestia Patrick Ryan told us one of the main issues behind these high numbers is the cost of living crisis, but said they are offering support to people 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

The research has been released just a day after it was announced GPs would begin prescribing walking and cycling to boost people’s mental and physical wellbeing.

We speak with Sam Perks from charity Mind about the significance of exercise in supporting people’s mental health, and the man behind Climb Free, a non-profit community interest company offering free indoor climbing sessions for people struggling mentally.
