The latest COVID-19 case numbers from around the states and territories

Here's a quick wrap of each Australian jurisdiction's latest COVID-19 statistics for Monday, August 8.

New South Wales

The state has recorded 4 new deaths in the latest reporting period.

There are 2,236 people in hospital with COVID-19, and 59 people in intensive care.

There have been 7,648 positive tests reported.

Victoria

Victoria has recorded 1 COVID-19-related death and 4,911 new cases of the virus.

There are 657 people in hospital with COVID-19, including 37 in ICU, eight of whom are being ventilated.

Queensland

The state has reported 2,504 new cases today.

There are 667 people in hospital and 26 in intensive care.

The number of people who have died is not reported on Saturday and Sunday.

Tasmania

There are 83 people in hospital with COVID-19 in the state, with one person in intensive care.

No new deaths have been reported.

A further 527 new cases were recorded in the state in the past day.

Northern Territory

The Northern Territory has reported 1 new COVID-19 death, a Greater Darwin man in his 90s with underlying health conditions. 

There have been 176 new cases of COVID-19 reported in the Northern Territory in the past day.

There are 32 people in hospital with the virus and two in intensive care.

Australian Capital Territory

There have been 509 new cases reported today.

Of all current active cases, 144 are in hospital with five in intensive care.

One death has been reported.

South Australia

South Australia has recorded seven new deaths in its latest reporting period.

There are 1,625 new cases in the state today.

Of all active cases, 322 are in hospital, 10 are in intensive care and 2 are ventilated.
