Did Michael Penix Jr. cement himself as a first-rounder thanks to a dazzling pro day?
It’s a good question. In our latest NFL mock draft from Christian D’Andrea, he’s not taken in the first round. But in a new mock draft from Colin Cowherd at Fox Sports, he has the Seattle Seahawks — who have Geno Smith but probably need a QB of the future — trading up with the Denver Broncos and taking the Washington QB with the No. 12 pick.
It would be an interesting move for the Broncos, who also need a quarterback. Here’s Cowherd’s take on why this would work:
The Broncos trade down, they need more players. The Seahawks move up and take Penix so he can stay in the same town. Ryan Grubb, the new Seahawks offensive coordinator, was Penix’s offensive coordinator in college at Washington. Seattle doesn’t owe Geno Smith any money this year. I think Penix throws the prettiest ball out of anyone in the draft this year, including Caleb Williams. You can say it’s a bit of a reach, but Seattle’s got their pieces — corners, running backs, receivers, a left tackle, linebackers. Seattle’s got a lot of pieces here, I think they’ve got the ability to give up some draft capital to take a guy who can throw a beautiful ball to Tyler Lockett, DK Metcalf and Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
