The New England Patriots are in a really interesting place in the 2024 NFL Draft.
At No. 3 in the official NFL draft order, they could trade down. They could take a non-QB and then hope for another quarterback to pop up for them next year. Or they could take a quarterback!
In our latest NFL mock draft from Christian D’Andrea, he had them trading down and taking OT Olumuyiwa Fashanu out of Penn State. But in Pete Prisco’s first CBS Sports mock, he has them taking Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy, a bit of a surprise as he’d be ahead of Drake Maye, the QB out of North Carolina.

Would I draft J.J. McCarthy here? No way. But he just seems like a Patriots quarterback — a leader and a winner.
