The Last Leg's Adam Hills says new episode won't air on Channel 4 tonight as 'it just doesn’t feel right'

The Last Leg will not air a new episode on Channel 4 tonight following the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Host of the live topical comedy show, Adam Hills, announced on social media that they had decided to cancel this Friday's instalment of the show.

The 52-year-old Australian comedian, who presents the programme alongside Alex Brooker and Josh Widdicombe, said that "it just doesn't feel right" to go ahead with the show and that they will "pay tribute" to the monarch "next week". Tonight's instalment was due to be broadcast from 10pm and welcome guests Richard Ayoade and Aisling Bea.

It comes as BBC and ITV have also announced changes to their TV schedules following the death of the Queen on Thursday, aged 96. Many channels are currently airing special news programmes dedicated to coverage on the monarch.

Taking to Twitter on Friday morning, comedian and host Adam Hills shared a statement with his followers: "We’ve decided not to do an episode of @thelastleg tonight. It just doesn’t feel right. We’ll pay tribute to Her Majesty next week but for now our thoughts are with her family, and all those affected by the news. We hope you understand."

A number of the Channel 4 show's viewers were quick to reply to Adam saying the decision was "understandable" and "respectful". James Donnelly tweeted: "Perfectly understandable. The BBC aren't showing comedy shows either. We need time to process." Lisa Pears added: "Totally understand. Shows how respectful you all are #ItsOk."

Nikki Daly said: "Thank you. I really appreciate the decision. The nation is in mourning. There will be time for comedy later. Those unhappy can go and watch Netflix." George Smith posted: "Well done Adam and team….a responsive and responsible stance to take on the circumstances. We all need time to process this and grieve…"

Susan Pearson replied: "The program is a highlight of the week that I miss so much between series, but this feels like the right decision. Thank you. I wasn't prepared for the level of grief I feel." and Peter Huntley tweeted: "The right decision and very respectful. Wouldn’t have expected anything less from you and the team."
