The ITV drama The Larkins is reported to be facing the axe, according to tabloid reports. The programme, a remake of popular 1990s show The Darling Buds of May, is said to be having a viewing slump.
The drop in viewers follows the departure of star Sabrina Bartlett. Starring Bradley Walsh and Joanna Scanlan, The Larkins is set in the late 1950s and has just started its second series, reports KentLive.
However The Sun reports that the show has lost two million viewers. The series' first episode was watched by 2.9 million people, compared with 4.8 million for the same episode of the first series in 2021.
A source told The Sun: “The Larkins is going to be dropped in the new year — the writing is on the wall. The ratings for series two were disappointingly low and cast disagreements on set have been an ongoing problem for the production team.”
Sabrina played the starring role Mariette but left blaming scheduling issues. Joelle Rae replaced her when the series returned in October.
However, it drew an average audience of 3.5 million — barely above the 3.3 million average for the 8pm time slot. A second source told The Sun there were no plans for a third series to be filmed.
