The Killers: 90-year-old man believes he is 'oldest fan' at Ashton Gate Stadium

A 90-year-old fan of The Killers could be one of the oldest ticket holders in attendance at tonight's Ashton Gate stadium show in south Bristol.

Keith Case is originally from Southmead but now lives in Easton-in-Gordano and at 90, he’s almost certainly the oldest Killers fan at the concert on Thursday (May 26).

When asked how he first discovered the music of Las Vegas rock group, Keith said: “I’m a season ticket holder at Bristol City and a few years ago they regularly played this song called 'Human' and it was amazing, really blew me away.

“So that’s how I got into The Killers. With my children and grandchildren, they got me CDs and I love them. Obviously, I love the Beatles and The Stones - who doesn’t - but I’m a classical music man, really."

Mr Case explained how his musical inclinations led him to regularly sing in many choral societies all over Bristol over the years. "That’s my thing really, but I do love The Killers," he noted. He attends Thursday night's concert with his son, Rob, and his granddaughter, Leah.

He shared his excitement pre-concert: “It’s great, my son got the tickets for this and I’m really looking forward to it. My wife Barbara and I have got all the family tickets to see the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra later this year so that’s us returning the favour.”

Mr Case - who said he has never seen The Killers or really ever been to a gig before - feared he wouldn’t make it when the tour was postponed for two years running.

“I’m a bit less mobile than I was when I was 88,” he said. "I was always positive I’d be here though and Rob has been so very supportive. It’s wonderful to be here.”

The Killers marks the first large-scale area music concert in Bristol for the first time in three years after the Covid pandemic forced the postponement of live events. The four-piece is joined by Wales' Manic Street Preachers as support with around 30,000 people flocking to catch both bands after a two-year wait.

Two fans from Doncaster spoke to Bristol Live earlier today to say they had camped outside the stadium since 5.30am to be first into the venue.
