The 'key player' who Rangers will struggle to go without this season

Kris Boyd believes Rangers could struggle to replace Youssef Chermiti.

This comes after the striker was ruled out for a significant period with an ACL injury.

The 22-year-old was stretchered off during Rangers’ defeat to Hibs after colliding with the advertising boards. The Ibrox club confirmed he suffered anterior cruciate ligament damage, leaving Chermiti facing a lengthy rehabilitation.

Boyd has been impressed by Chermiti's importance to Derek McInnes’ side and says Rangers will feel the absence of the forward. He said: "Chermiti is a key player for Rangers who I think is fantastic, and they could struggle without him. [LiveFootballTickets]

"When Youssef Chermiti came off at the weekend, he was in real pain.

"Anybody that's involved in football would wish him a speedy recovery from the injury that he picked up at the weekend."

The injury represents a major setback for Rangers, who had made clear that Chermiti was central to their plans for the season after rejecting a substantial bid from Galatasaray before the Hibs match.

Rangers have confirmed Chermiti will be out of action for a "significant period of time", leaving McInnes facing a decision over whether to add another striker before the transfer window closes.

Boyd added: "First and foremost, yes, Rangers have got a talented player there, but health is the most important thing, and we wish him all the best in recovery."

The former Rangers striker also warned that McInnes’ side must quickly find a way to turn performances into results, following a winless three-game start to the manager’s Ibrox reign.

He said: "At Rangers, you are under pressure to get results every single week, so they're going to have to find a way. It's not going to be easy."
