The Jota to Celtic transfer obstacle that saw Cameron Carter Vickers announced first as Benfica claim emerges

Celtic fans had hoped to see Jota unveiled as a permanent transfer closely after the announcement of Cameron Carter-Vickers.

The Hoops have already agreed to pay the £6.4 million transfer fee for the winger that was written into his loan from Benfica last season.

Record Sport previously revealed that discussions were had with the player over wages and length of contract, as they look to secure his long-term future.

And those talks are ongoing and holding up an announcement, according to a report in Portugal.

Record have released an update on the negotiations stating that Jota remains in talks with Celtic over the last details of his contract.

The Portuguese outlet further claim that Benfica are keen to cash-in on the player and are not standing in the way of an exit this summer.

It is noted that the fee is not the issue as it was already agreed before the winger went on loan to Parkhead and that he is expected to play in Glasgow's east end next term.

That is in contrast to Tottenham loanee Carter-Vickers, who became Ange Postecoglou's first summer signing last week.

While the player was keen to get the deal over the line, the final details had to ironed out with the English Premier League side.

Within that deal, Record Sport understands an initial £6 million fee paid under the terms of the option which came with last summer’s loan agreement.

However, that fee could rise significantly to as much as £10 million with future add-ons written into the final deal.

Celtic's top negotiators have turned their attention to Jota as they look to bring back the 23-year-old next term.
