From having lofty expectations after acquiring Aaron Rodgers via trade to having their fourth quarterback take snaps in Week 13, things haven’t gone according to plan for the New York Jets this season. According to Tankathon, the Jets are now projected for the sixth-overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft following the team’s 13-8 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.
The only four teams ahead of the Jets in the draft order projections are the Chicago Bears (one is their pick, the other is from the Carolina Panthers), the New England Patriots, the Arizona Cardinals, and the Washington Commanders. The Bears and the Cardinals are both teams looking to win games to end the season as they get a better look at their current quarterbacks.
Ahead of a Week 14 matchup against the Houston Texans, the Jets have lost five straight games and it remains to be seen who is starting at quarterback. During Sunday’s loss to the Falcons, Tim Boyle was benched for Trevor Siemian.
Three of New York’s last five games this season are against teams with a winning record. On the other hand, the Commanders and the Patriots remain on their schedule, so those games could have major draft implications.
While the Jets once had the playoffs on their mind, fans will likely be hoping for a top-five pick in hopes of filling one of the many holes on the current roster.
