With everyone (rightfully) freaking out as they wait for the 2024 U.S. election results, there is one thing that we can always count on to calm our nerves — memes. The ‘Fake Melania Trump‘ meme has made a triumphant return to the internet’s stage, and I never thought I’d find Trump conspiracy theories so soothing.
For those who of you have been living under a rock (lucky you), the ‘Fake Melania’ conspiracy theory suggests that the former First Lady occasionally sends a body double to public appearances. It’s been around since 2017, popping up whenever Melania looks slightly… suss.
Fast forward to Election Day 2024, and boom! The theory is back with a vengeance. Why? Because Melania showed up to vote with Donald Trump in Florida wearing a black polka-dot dress and sunglasses. Indoors. SUSS!
The internet naturally erupted after finding its new coping mechanism. One X user quipped, “Fake Melania makes a rare appearance,” while another declared, “I’m excited that he brought Fake Melania back one last time for his series finale.”
Others have pointed out that the woman photographed at the voting ballots had a different bone structure compared to the ‘real’ Melania — wherever she is.
Now, let’s be clear: there’s absolutely zero evidence that Melania has a secret twin or a body double filling in for her. The Trumps have never addressed these claims, probably because they’re too busy causing chaos in democracy.
However, part of me kind of wants to believe it. Melania has definitely been keeping a lower profile this election and I mean wouldn’t you want a break from campaigning? It’s not like this would be the only fake thing about him.
“I can’t tell if that’s fake Melania or hostage Melania standing next to him because they both look so much alike,” an X user put aptly.
All I know is that I’m lowkey grateful for this silly conspiracy theory because it’s a lot better than anxiously refreshing the news every two seconds.
