The inside track on Sory Kaba's situation with Danish club and whether a summer move to Cardiff City could really happen

It's not yet mission accomplished in terms of their Championship survival bid, but Cardiff City are edging closer to the line.

A sensational win at Watford has given the Bluebirds a two-point cushion between themselves and the relegation zone, with Sabri Lamouchi's side also having the luxury of a game in hand over their rival strugglers.

Despite a couple of a really disappointing defeats in recent weeks, there's no denying the situation is looking a lot better than it was a few months ago, and Lamouchi has to take a hefty amount of credit for the team's turnaround.

So too does star striker Sory Kaba, whose goals have proved pivotal in Cardiff's battle for survival.

The 27-year-old netted his seventh strike of the season during the win over the Hornets, and his rich run of form has unsurprisingly made him a firm favourite with supporters in the capital.

City boss Lamouchi suggested ahead of Saturday's clash with Stoke City that the striker "1000 per cent" wants to stay with the club next season.

So, could it really happen?

We spoke to Daniel Bak, journalist at Danish outlet bold.dk to get the full lowdown on where things stand

What is Kaba’s contract situation at FC Midtjylland?

FC Midtjylland bought Sory Kaba for a record fee of around 22 million Danish Krone (£2.61m) in 2019 and gave him a five year-contract. That means his contract with the club will expire in the summer 2024.

Do you expect him to leave in the summer?

That would be my guess. It's the second last chance for FC Midtjylland to get some of the big investment back. But you never know. Recently FC Midtjylland sacked their head coach Albert Capellas and brought back Thomas Thomasberg. The new head coach loves a big number 9 and maybe he could use Kaba at the club.

How likely do you think it is that Cardiff could sign him in the summer? They can only sign loan players or free agents at the moment

I don't think FC Midtjylland would be interested in letting him go for free or on a loan again. They want to see cash and if Cardiff can't use money, I don't see him coming back.

Why is it perceived that he has a ‘bad attitude’ at Midtjylland?

There was a game against Brøndby where Midtjylland were 0-2 down and won 3-2 after a wild comeback. Kaba was substituted off and he showed no reaction from the bench when FC Midtjylland scored the winner just before the final whistle.

The former head coach, Bo Henriksen, was really relieved when Kaba was loaned out to Leuven in the summer of 2021. He said that it meant a lot for the culture that he was not there anymore. There were also some stories in the press that Kaba had refused to be part of a pre-season game and had left a training in rage.

Fans love him in Cardiff, what do fans think of him at Midtjylland? Would they be happy to see him leave?

I have seen some fans wanting him back after showing good form at Cardiff. But he is a player that a lot of people have an opinion about. I guess some fans don't like him because of his motivational issues, while other fans would want him back if he can score goals at FC Midtjylland again.
