The incredible wonderland of art that lies just outside Edinburgh ideal for entertaining kids this summer

Want to combine your child's love of art with a fun day out to keep them entertained this summer? Well, the hugely exciting and unique Jupiter Artland, which lies just 10 miles outside of Edinburgh could be the answer.

Found within the picturesque 80-acre estate of Bonnington House, the sculpture garden celebrates the works of famous artists such as Anthony Gourlay, who created the Angel of the North, Anish Kapoor and Tracey Emin, who unveiled her latest artwork there in May.

Ideal for exploring art in a very interactive way, the park, which is the brainchild of owners and custodians Nicky and Robert Wilson, is a great way in engaging your children this summer with a day out that challenges their artistic side. From full-size sculptures they can climb on and explore to thought-provoking artworks, there is plenty here to keep even the most inquisitive and fussy of young minds busy.

Welcoming you into the park is the undulating, ethereal landscape created by landscape designer Charles Jencks. Named the 'Cells of Life', with eight landforms and a connecting causeway mimicking the cellular process of mitosis.

While Anya Gallaccio's 'The Light Pours Out Of Me' is an underground amethyst cave where you'll find the stunning purple crystals, which are said to educe anxiety and stress.

There are dozens of other artworks waiting to be discovered too, including 'Gateway' – an ornate outdoor pool decorated with elaborate ceramic tiles, as well as a range of free arts activities for children of different age groups – you can see the full programme here. It really will make you feel like you've passed through the rabbit hole like Alice on your way to Wonderland.

Tickets to the sculpture gardens cost £10 for adults, with children and students going for £5.

There are toilets and a cafe on site too, as well as several car parks including plenty of disability spaces.

You can bring your pet too, but should you want to, you'll need to join their Dog Membership scheme, which you can find out about here.

Booking in advance is advised – 10 am until 5 pm everyday – which you do here.
