The past 12 months have been tough on household finances for many. Soaring energy bills are among the chief catalysts for a cost of living crisis that has seen inflation soar to more than 10%.
It has led to government support akin to that provided during the pandemic, with all households getting help with their energy bills and many people eligible for a plethora of extra support. More assistance is coming in 2023, including a £900 cost of living payment for the Department for Work and Pensions for millions of people.
Chancellor Jeremy Hunt announced the move in his November autumn statement and around eight million people on means-tested benefits are set to receive it. Other support coming next year includes £150 for those with disabilities and £300 for some pensions.
