The idyllic Scots village with stunning white sand beaches used as film locations

Last week, TripAdvisor unveiled its Winter Travel Index, which revealed the top trending travel destinations in the UK this winter.

A number of Scottish spots were included in the list, such as Ratho in Edinburgh, Balmaha in Stirling, and Onich in Inverness-shire. Each one offers a unique winter getaway opportunity for those looking for a smaller-scale holiday in the coming months.

The fourth Scottish village that was included in the top 10 fastest growing domestic travel destinations was Morar in the Highlands. The small village has a population of around 250, but is becoming more and more popular with tourists seeking a quiet holiday.

If you're headed to the idyllic village, your first port of call should be The Morar Hotel, which has stood for over 100 years. The hotel offers stunning views of the surrounding area and has its own restaurant open to in-house guests and locals alike.

When venturing out to see the sights in Morar, the Silver Sands of Morar should be your top priority. This is the name given to the series of beautiful sandy beaches which pepper the coastline in the area.

As the name suggests, they feature gorgeous white sands and offer one-of-a-kind coastline views. The beaches have even featured prominently in films such as Local Hero and Breaking the Waves, for which lead actress Emily Watson was nominated for an Academy Award.

Another natural sight that Morar is famous for is the nearby Loch Morar, which is the deepest freshwater body in the British Isles, with a maximum depth of approximately 310 metres. The loch is a popular spot for water sports, and also offers visitors a number of picturesque lochside walking trails and wildlife watching spots.

If you're interested in learning a bit more about the history of the local area, then you should head to Our Lady of Perpetual Succour and St. Cumin's RC Church, which overlooks Loch Morar. The church was constructed in 1889 and features gorgeous stained glass windows.

There is plenty of information inside, so if you're keen to learn a bit about the church you're in luck. If you head outside to the church garden, there are also a number of statues and memorial stones scattered around.

Morar also features a small railway station, through which the 'Hogwarts Express' passes on its journey. If you're a Harry Potter fan, that's one more reason to check out Morar.
