The historic Welsh beach hut you can stay at that's been named one of Britain's best in new Channel 4 show

Nestled between the gorgeous beaches of Abermawr and Aberbach in Pembrokeshire sits a gorgeous cabin with a fascinating history. The Cable Hut is one of a handful of properties to feature in tonight's episode of Britain's Best Beach Huts on Channel 4 - and interior design expert Laura Jackson dubs it "one of the most beautiful beach huts in the country".

The episode airing this evening (Thursday, July 6) is the second of the series and sees Laura and her co-host Jay Blades traverse the UK looking for the most "luxurious" beach huts. Far from the typical shabby-chic beach huts you find on sands across the nation, the beach huts and cabins in tonight's episode all ooze elegance, with The Cable Hut providing everything you could need for a holiday or mini-break away from home in a beautiful setting with unparalleled views.

The hut played a "pivotal role" in British history, co-host Laura Jackson tells viewers. She said: "150 years ago, staff here were some of the first to establish telecommunications with America. On July 27, 1866, Brunel's Great Eastern steamship completed a voyage to lay a cable under the Atlantic, reducing the time it took to send messages to the Americas from two weeks - to two minutes!"

Some of the original cable still lies beneath the property, The Cable Hut owner John Marsh tells Laura in tonight's episode. And John and his wife have worked hard to keep the hut's traditional charm whilst they've been modernising it in recent years.

The room that was once the hub for the telecommunications staff is now a stylish bedroom, but the Hut's lighting takes inspiration from its history, with warehouse-style and industrial lamps located throughout the property and a quirky fire-extinguisher lamp too!

Whilst the Hut is certainly much larger than the traditional beach huts we're used to seeing on postcards and posters - like the ones in Langland in Gower we visited at Easter - it retains much of the traditional charm we associate with the British holiday staple.

The Cable Hut is privately-owned but is available for short-term stays for couples wanting to relax in a home away from home. Its listing on UniqueHomestays.com explains: "Back in the days where love letters and drift bottles were amongst the only few means of communication, this humble hut in Pembrokeshire was built to house the first telephone lines laid across the Atlantic Ocean.

"Over 100 years later, the abandoned Welsh dwelling captured the imagination of a young passing couple and The Cable Hut started its latest chapter as a luxury self-catering cottage retreat."

The Cable Hut sleeps two and prices start from £995 for a short break, or £1,295 per week.

Britain's Best Beach Huts airs tonight (Thursday, July 6) on Channel 4, at 8pm
