A Northumberland pub which once hosted Bonnie Prince Charlie is set for a significant transformation after being snapped up by new owners.
The Highlander, a former coaching inn which dates back to the 1700s, has been acquired by the team behind Northumberland wedding venue, Ellingham Hall.
Set close to the village of Belsay, locals were dismayed when the Grade II listed pub – set on the side of the A696 – was shut more than two years ago, and it has been on the market ever since.
