Escaping from the cold into one warm and cosy cafe in The Meadows that does a game-changing breakfast we visited Woody’s where community reporter Keimae Blake thoroughly enjoyed her stay as she reports…
A hearty breakfast always goes down a treat and for me, a fry-up is the perfect way to start the day. I traded in my usual bowl of Weetabix or Cheerios and had a massive fry-up for with change from a tenner.
Woody's is tucked away in the Bridgeway Centre on the precinct but is clearly popular with tradespeople and folk who seemed like regulars. The queue built as I sat and ordered my breakfast, surrounded by the festive warmth of fairy lights.

Taking off my coat and looking up at the menu on a chalkboard I knew instantly what I was going to get. A fry-up!
Placing my order with a friendly member of staff - all smiles in her Santa hat - I got a large breakfast which consisted of two pieces of bacon, two sausages, two eggs, two hash browns, mushrooms, beans, tomatoes and toast. Baked beans to many are the perfect finishing touch to an English breakfast but I don’t like them, which wasn’t a problem as I had plenty to dig into. And all for £6.
With my £2.40 cappuccino, I sat and waited for my breakfast which took around 15 minutes. With my toast on a separate plate and everything else on another I thought ‘can I really eat this?’
To answer that question, I did. Nothing went untouched because it was absolutely delicious.
My bacon wasn’t too fatty but nice and salty, it could have been a bit more well done but that’s probably my fault since I didn’t ask!
Continuing to eat, I felt the breeze from outside every time someone walked in. Another member of staff (also in a Santa hat) was busy flipping eggs and making cobs.
My chopped tomatoes were the fitting alternative for beans and my hash browns were crispy and crunchy. I love my hash browns overcooked and that’s exactly how they seemed to taste at Woody’s.
I was very impressed with how many mushrooms were on my plate and my egg yolk was runny which I saw as an excellent opportunity to dip my sausage in.
Many of us have been to Spoons for breakfast or our local café and although I live two buses away from The Meadows, for a fry-up from Woody’s, I’d happily make the journey .
I had no criticism over this wonderful fry-up. It was simply 10/10.
