The hidden gem Glasgow park walk with incredible views out over the city

One thing Glasgow is blessed with is plenty of greenery, with beautiful parks and stunning countryside galore ready to be explored.

And when the sunshine and the warmer weather finally appear (on those rare summer days) it's the ideal excuse to get out and go on a wee adventure, and while the Ayrshire coast or Loch Lomond may be calling, there are some beauty spots around the city that make for a shorter, easier trip.

One of our favourites, which lies on the south side of the city, offers woodland, bike trails, and expansive walks.

However, its crowning glory is the view it offers out over the entire city, stretching all the way to the Campsies.

Even on a cloudy day the view is spectacular (Sean Murphy)

Reaching almost 200 metres above sea level, the Braes are considered to be one of the highest points in Glasgow, meaning when you find the viewpoint, you'll be blown away by just how much you can actually see.

How to get there

Heading to the top of Castlemilk, you'll find entry to this fascinating park, with parking along Ardencraig Road and Cathkin Road close to Carmunnock village.

What can you do in the Cathkin Braes?

There are multiple walking trails, ideal for families with dogs, including open grasslands, flowing streams, and shady woodland for when the weather is maybe a little too warm.

Mountain bikers will love it too, as there are several challenging off-road trails (built in 2014 for the Commonwealth Games) on offer to zoom around.
