With spring well and truly here, people across the country will be looking to get out and explore the beautiful Scottish countryside.
While there are countless charming towns and villages dotted around Scotland, for those who are avid walkers and hikers, the real joy will lie in venturing off the beaten track. Rather than glamping and luxury hotels, many will instead be turning to bothies for accommodation.
A bothy is a basic shelter, usually left unlocked and available for anyone to use free of charge. However, unlike other types of accommodation, they are typically small buildings that have minimal furnishings, and so visitors must provide their own fuel and sleeping bags, and make their own provision for drinking water.
