A monthly farmers market in Tameside has been ranked among the best in the UK, according to the Sunday Times. Ashton Farmers' Market takes place on the last Sunday of the month outside the historic market hall on Bow Street.
It has now made it into a list of the top 9 farmers markets across the UK collated by the national newspaper. It sits alongside the likes of Truro Farmers' Market in Cornwall, Edinburgh Farmers' Market and the Venn Street Market in Clapham, London.
The Sunday Times compiled the list of "markets worth stocking up on" for fresh and local produce at the weekend. The Ashton-under-Lyne farmers' market was praised for its "organic honey, oven-warm meat pies and extra gooey camembert" on offer on the stalls.

Ashton Market Hall has a long history of trade in the region, also noted in the write-up. The paper said: "Early in the 1800s traders started to set up stalls and swap produce in the market hall here — and they’ve been coming back ever since to pile tables high with organic honey, oven-warm meat pies and extra gooey camembert.
"The market is one of the north west’s biggest and sits alongside a new craft section, so you can grab a candle alongside your carrots."
For those wanting to give it a try, the market is held on the last Sunday of every month - so is taking place this coming weekend, Sunday March 26. It opens from 8am-1pm.
There is also the popular "giant table-top market" that takes place on Sundays where customers flock to bag a bargain. It's all held under covered gazebos so takes place whatever the weather.
This is not the first time the farmers' market has been named among the best. It has previously been voted best in the north west by the Observer Food Monthly magazine.
Market assistant manager Robert Kay said: "We've got a number of traders who usually come, for the farmers' market. It's mainly butchers, we have a turkey man, beef and lamb, but there are also stalls with fresh cheeses and honey.
"We have a lady who is really popular at the moment doing home-made curries, she sells out within an hour or so, they're brilliant."
The famous Ashton indoor market opens every Monday to Saturday. During school holidays you can also find a funfair outside too.
Ashton Farmers Market is held on the last Sunday of every month from 8am to 1pm.
