The Greater Manchester curry spots that have cleaned up at the 2022 Curry Awards

The best curry houses across the UK have been honoured at the 2022 English Curry Awards. The awards were handed out at the NEC in Birmingham last night, with a host of restaurants in the North West picking up gongs.

Winners of the awards, which ‘recognised the hard work, determination, impeccable service and efforts of England’s best curry establishment and professionals’, are decided by the general public, with the ceremony in its 11th year.

Indian and Nepalese restaurant The Original Third Eye, on Wilmslow Road, won the Best of Manchester Award, beating the likes of Dhoom Dhaam, Indian Tiffin Room, Amma’s Canteen, Khandoker Restaurant, Arnero Restaurant, Asha’s Restaurant, Wah Ji Wah, Delhi House Café and Mumbai to London Café to the award.

“Thank you to all our supporters and customers, as we wouldn't be here if it wasn't for you all,” said the restaurant’s owners. “Thank you to those who nominated and supported us throughout business over the many years.

“Thank you to all the staff and family who are devoted to keeping and running the Third Eye restaurant. This is also why we are still here today.”

Asha’s, which re-opened on Peter Street last week, came in second place, winning the Highly Commended Recognition Award.

Other winners in the region included Burton Road's much-loved Great Kathmandu, which won the Highly Commended Recognition award for Nepalese Restaurant of the Year. Meanwhile, North West Takeaway and Home Delivery of the Year went to Hawali in Burnley, Best North West Curry Restaurant went to Bombay 8 in Warrington and Restaurant of the Year (North West) went to the Royal Balti House in Bolton.

Yasmin Mahmood, director of Oceanic Consulting which organises the awards, said: “We are honoured and delighted to have such great finalists and winners representing the English curry industry and enhancing its reputation nationally and internationally. Each one of them being a true reflection of the boundless talent in this industry. Congratulations to all finalists and winners!”
