The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up to Cancer: Fans warn Gemma Collins her cake will 'taste like soap' after mishap

Reality TV star Gemma Collins is known for many things, from hilarious one-liners to on-screen dramatics. She is not, however, known for baking but has appeared on The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up to Cancer to help raise money for the great cause.

During her time on the show, where she was joined in the tent by Tim Key, AJ Odudu and Jessica Hynes, Gemma shocked viewers when she used a lot of one ingredient. During the signature challenge, the bakers were tasked with creating a sandwich cake and Gemma went for a classic pink theme with raspberry and rose flavouring.

She boldly told the cameras she was using half a bottle of rose flavouring, having already said she baked by intuition and not using a recipe, and many viewers were horrified by the amount she was using. One said: "#GBBO Half a bottle of rose essence? Christ it’ll taste like she’s baked her nans toilet water!"

Another added: "That rose filling cake is going to taste like soap" and: "Fiver says Gemma adds too much rose water and that cake comes out tasting like your nan's Yardley perfume #gbbo". A fourth said: "watching celeb bake off and... GEMMA DID NOT JUST PUT HALF A BOTTLE OF ROSE FLAVOURING IN HER CAKE ??????"

A fifth said: "Half a bottle of rose flavouring? oh dear Gemma" followed by a facepalm and laughing face emoji. When it came to the judging Paul Hollywood said Gemma's cake was "fascinating", to which Gemma said "that is the most beautiful thing anyone ever said to me" and that she had slightly overdone it on the decoration.

Prue Leith told her she needed to "turn down the raspberry and the rose" and Gemma promised she would use their advice. She said: "I am going to take this on board and I am going to now on my next cake less is more".
