A Leeds salon is offering clients anonymous payments for haircuts to help during the struggle of the cost of living crisis. Samantha Georgeson, owner of SL Hair, in Roundhay, has launched the service after hearing more stories about how people are struggling.
Every Tuesday and Wednesday, people of all ages will be able to have their haircut and pay whatever they can afford. Speaking to LeedsLive Samantha, 26, said people have been changing their habits in the past few weeks such as spreading appointments further than normal at the salon.
She said: “I’ve just had the idea, I’ve just had more and more people talking about how they’re struggling with the cost of everything. I thought this was a way to give something back.

“It’s open to everyone. We’re doing it Wednesdays and Tuesdays. They can call to make an appointment and payments will be anonymous so there’s no shame or anything like that.”
Samantha opened the salon a year ago and stated that her concerns at the time were potentially going into another lockdown due to Covid.
However, now they’re faced with additional costs due to the cost of living crisis and they’re not getting extra help from the government.
She added: “It’s really worrying for us we have all the same costs, we’re not getting help from the government. You need heating and electricity (in the salon), you’ve got to use it. There’s no way we can cut back. It’s massively affecting us. Its a really scary time for everyone really. It’s really worrying.”
