The Gate in Newcastle has finally reopened to cinemagoers after being closed for almost a month due to safety concerns.
The city centre venue has been shut since Thursday, May 5 when it suddenly evacuated diners and people visiting the cinema, citing "unforeseen circumstances".
On May 10, The Crown Estate, which has owned The Gate since 2012, explained that the temporary closure was "to enable the team to carry out further testing of the internal mechanisms that prevent the spread of a fire, to ensure these mechanisms meet the highest standard of fire safety".

Following the investigation, owners expected the venue to remain closed for at least another four weeks while work was carried out to upgrade some of the systems and measures. However, The Gate has now confirmed that the Cineworld cinema and its car park are open to customers.
A statement shared across The Gate's social media pages said the cinema would be open from 4.45pm on Saturday, May 29, with its restaurants and bars due to reopen in the coming days.
It read: "We are pleased to announce that from 4.45pm today both Cineworld and the Gate Car park are reopening joining The Mayfair, The Hustle and The Lofts. More venues will be opening over the next few days, and we will keep you posted."
