The region's leading tourism businesses were celebrating last night after the return of the North East Tourism Awards.
Held at Newcastle's Civic Centre during English Tourism Week, which runs from March 18 - 27, the awards ceremony was presented by BBC Radio Newcastle's Alfie Joey. The night's biggest winners were Alnwick Garden, who picked up three gold awards for a new category of Resilience and Innovation in Tourism, alongside Experience of the Year and Large Visitor Attraction of the Year.
Another new award category was the Unsung Heroes category, which celebrated individuals who go the extra mile to ensure visitors have a truly memorable experience. The gold award was won by Clive Goodwin of the Ouseburn Trust, who co-ordinates the programme of tours at the Victoria Tunnel.
