The free agents West Ham could add to David Moyes' squad with former Chelsea hero without a club

West Ham United won't be able to purchase another player until January after the summer transfer window closed on Thursday with the Hammers recruiting eight new players, spending over £150million in the process.

Lucas Paqueta, Gianluca Scamacca, Nayef Aguerd, Maxwell Cornet, Emerson, Thilo Kehrer, Flynn Downes and Alphonse Areola all arrived at the London Stadium on permanent deals throughout the window, bolstering David Moyes' squad with the Irons set to compete in the Premier League, EFL Cup and Europa Conference League before the World Cup starts as well as the FA Cup in the New Year.

However, the Scotsman could still add to his squad with free agents allowed to be registered outside of the transfer window, but who is currently without a club and could be available for the Hammers to bring to east London?

Diego Costa - striker

A household name of the Premier League after his time at Chelsea, Brazilian forward Diego Costa has been without a club for eight months having left Brazilian outfit Clube Atletico Mineiro in January.

Now 33, Costa scored 59 goals and provided 23 assists in 120 appearances for West Ham's London rivals, helping them win the 2014/15 and 2016/17 Premier League titles whilst at Stamford Bridge before leaving for Atletico Madrid in January 2018.

Although he wouldn't be a regular starter, the Brazilian has good goalscoring pedigree, experience and would add to an area that Moyes' squad is still rather light in despite signing Scamacca from Sassuolo. However, the Brazilian could be on his way to fellow Premier League outfit Wolves, according to the Athletic's David Ornstein, as they seek cover after new signing Sasa Kaladjzic suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Juan Mata - attacking midfielder

It could be argued that it's a surprise Juan Mata didn't find a new club over the summer after leaving Manchester United upon the expiry of his contract at the end of last season.

The former United and Chelsea attacking midfielder has 278 Premier League appearances to his name, scoring 51 goals and providing 64 assists and could provide some extra creativity. However, at 34, any deal for the Spaniard would be expected to be short term.
