The FOUR Rangers transfer misses including Celtic star that has Craig Moore 'shaking his head'

Craig Moore has identified FOUR Rangers transfer misses - including one current Celtic star that has him 'shaking his head'.

Aaron Mooy has proved a brilliant piece of business for Ange Postecoglou with the midfielder now fully up and running fitness wise. He's established himself as a key player in the champions' quest for a domestic Treble and has dislodged Matt O'Riley from the team. He was a standout for Australia at the World Cup finals but things could have been much different with the experienced star spending time using the facilities at the Light Blues' training base. That was arranged by Moore during former boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst reign in a bid to ramp up his fitness ahead crucial fixtures for the Socceroos.

Michael Beale is set for a big summer overhaul with a vast number of players out of contract including Ryan Kent, Alfredo Morelos, Allan McGregor and Steven Davis. A number of fringe stars will also be shifted with the Rangers boss out to land players who can slot straight into his starting team. That process has already started with Todd Cantwell and Nicolas Raskin in January. Talk has dominated this very subject between pundits and fans alike of late and Moore has namechecked Lewis Ferguson, Martin Boyle and Josh Doig on top of Mooy as players who Rangers could have landed last summer.

He told Go Radio : “It’s as if Rangers want to go leaner. Let's say players one through to 16 are your starting XI players, then you start to have a few of those fringe players.

"The likes of your Alex Lowry, Adam Devine and Robbie Ure are right up Michael Beale’s street in terms of a coach that can develop players. You still need to be able to spend money, but Celtic haven’t spent loads and loads of money.

"They have tried and tested a [Cameron] Carter-Vickers then spent the money, same with Jota. They have used the Japanese market. It has not been hugely expensive.

“Rangers just need to be better in the market, because it hasn’t been a success. That is where the improvement needs to be made.

“I think you have got to look at different markets other than the UK, because the UK is too expensive. Domestically, Lewis Ferguson was one. Martin Boyle was in Saudi and it wasn’t working out, and Rangers were crying out for a right winger. I don’t know why that didn’t get to a different level." Fellow studio pundit Mark Guidi mentioned former Hibs talent Doig, before Moore added: "Josh Doig is another.”

Go Radio Football Show host Paul Cooney then also brought up that Mooy was recommended to Rangers by Moore, having trained at Auchenhowie before a move across the city. Moore went on: “Unfortunately I shake my head every time I see him play well for Celtic.”
